Career - Subaru WRX STI NR4 - Jämsä (Light Gravel)

Vehicle:Subaru WRX STI NR4 (R4) Track:Jämsä, Finland Surface: Light Gravel (Light / Dry) Driving Style:Fast & Planted (High-speed stability with aggressive acceleration and jump control) After extensive testing across the long, fast Jämsä stages, I've finalized this setup for the Subaru WRX STI NR4, tuned specifically for Dry Light Gravel. Finland is the fastest rally on the calendar — blind crests, massive jumps, and long straights — so this tune prioritizes a planted, composed chassis at speed while keeping the car rotateable and the rear axle hooked up on the loose surface. The car feels tight and responsive rather than floaty, yet remains forgiving over the big bumps. This setup went through several iterations. The key breakthrough was realizing that on this particular stage, 4th gear carries most of the corners and 5th is rarely needed — so instead of chasing maximum top speed with a long final drive (which only made the lower gears lazy), I shortened the final drive back to its minimum to bring the 1st–4th acceleration back, while leaving 5th at its maximum as a top-speed safety margin that's there if you ever need it.

Key Characteristics: 1. Alignment:Front toe set to 0.00° for drag-free, sharp steering on the fast sections, paired with aggressive front camber (-1.65°) for high-speed corner grip. A Rear Toe-in of +0.40° acts as a geometric stabilizer, keeping the tail planted during high-speed lift-off and over blind crests without killing turn-in. Rear camber at -1.25° matches the front's aggression for a balanced, stable platform. 2. Differential:The rear LSD is set aggressively — Driving Lock 40%, Braking Lock 32%, Preload 41.67 N·m — to put the power down hard out of the loose corners and prevent snap oversteer on deceleration. Front and Centre Driving Locks are maxed at 36% for strong, predictable drive, with moderate braking locks (28%) and preloads (33.33 N·m) for a controllable, confident exit. 3. Suspension & Damping:Firm spring rates (107.96 F / 69.28 R) and a lowered ride height (26.25 mm both ends) drop the centre of gravity to kill the high-speed wander, while a stiff front Anti-Roll Bar (12.38 N·m) keeps the body flat through the fast, demanding corners. Damping is set firm for jump control — Front Fast Bump at the +5 maximum, Bump Zone Division raised to 0.72 mps so the big impacts are absorbed by the fast bump circuit, and controlled rebound to settle the car quickly after landing. 4. Brakes:A braking force of 3,000 N·m with a 58% front bias allows aggressive, late braking and trail-braking rotation into the technical sections between the fast straights — maximizing every opportunity to gain time. 5. Gearing:Final Drive shortened to 0.213 (minimum) to restore sharp 1st–4th acceleration, which is what this stage actually rewards — 4th gear carries most corners. 5th gear is left at its maximum (1.246) as a top-speed margin for the rare flat-out sections and jumps, but you won't rely on it day to day. 6. Best For:Drivers wanting a predictable, confidence-inspiring car that stays stable flat-out, lands jumps cleanly, and accelerates hard out of every corner — without feeling floaty or vague at speed. 7. Pro-Tip:On the big blind crests, the firm damping and lowered ride height mean the car stays composed even when a jump catches you out. If the rear ever feels light on a fast lift-off, keep a touch of throttle to maintain drivetrain load rather than fully lifting — this setup rewards a smooth, momentum-based style.
